HAMZA
“When I was younger growing up in Morocco, I thought I knew exactly who I was because I come from a lot of strong influences, whether it is family, religion, culture, or one idea of what life is supposed to look like. I discovered Hip Hop at age 17. This was the beginning of freeing myself from the box I grew up in. Hip Hop has freed me through movement, style, and new ideas. Dance helped me connect to my body more, which allows me to express myself in new ways. Clothes make me feel free and uniquely myself.
I use clothes to express how I am feeling in the moment or how I wish I felt. Most importantly, these elements of Hip Hop supported my growth in becoming more open and receptive to new experiences, ways of being, and ideas. I am always in the process of finding new ways to freely and openly express my truth through this art. I am still figuring out what that truth is and “freeing myself from me” is that process of discovery.”
